Our Story

Vitaco is a leading Australasian manufacturer and distributor of an outstanding collection of supplements, health food and sports nutrition brands. Our four core brands Healtheries, Nutra-Life, Musashi and Athena have been helping people live healthier lives in New Zealand, Australia and over 30 countries worldwide for over 100 years. Vitaco will offer you a dynamic and supportive team and is proud to have employee engagement index surpassing 90%!

About the Role

We are offering a paid, part‑time opportunity for an engineering student to gain hands‑on, site‑based experience working alongside experienced engineers on real manufacturing projects.

This role is ideal for a student who wants to complement their studies with practical exposure to FMCG / food and sports supplement manufacturing, and who is interested in how engineering projects are scoped and delivered in an operating factory environment.  You will be available for about 20 hours/ week, for a fixed term of up to 6 months, working two to three days per week at our East Tamaki site.

You will support engineers with the early‑stage definition of services and infrastructure replacement projects, helping translate what exists on site into clear, documented scopes.

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with site engineers and CAD resources, you will be involved in:

  • Conducting site walk‑downs to understand existing plant services and infrastructure
  • Mapping pipe routes and services (e.g. compressed air, utilities) within live manufacturing areas
  • Collecting and organising technical and process information (layouts, asset details, operating requirements)
  • Supporting engineers with project scoping and documentation
  • Liaising with CAD operators to help translate site information into drawings
  • Building an understanding of how engineering decisions are made in a regulated food manufacturing environment
This is a practical, hands‑on role with time spent both on the factory floor and working with the engineering team.

About You

This role would suit a student who is:

  • Studying engineering (e.g. mechanical, chemical, process, mechatronics, or similar)
  • Interested in manufacturing, FMCG, food, or sports nutrition industries
  • Comfortable working in an industrial site environment
  • Detail‑oriented and willing to ask questions and learn from experienced engineers
  • Keen to gain practical exposure alongside academic study
Year of study is flexible — attitude, curiosity, and reliability are more important than prior experience.

What can you expect in return?

  • On the job learning, development and coaching
  • Competitive hourly rate
  • Flexibility around study and examination commitments
  • Great discounts on our products
  • Subsidised onsite cafe
  • Wellness initiatives
  • A fun and supportive work environment and the list goes on
